Underneath your canopy of comfort
Protected from the waining heat
Leaves of green, mottled brown, burnt orange
Crunch and squish beneath my feet
I walk with added security
That you protect me from harsh light
Yet give me speckled diamond
Shards of iridescent light
We pad we walk, brisk then slow
Paces vary and we bask in autumn glow
A combination of warmth and rising damp
The wind brings chill in moments that we stand
Steps follow the bending muddy paths
Take in nature as we roam
A sense of urgency subdued
Heading towards home
I treasure the peaceful moment
To feel my lungs with air
Briefly escaping torment
Of the mania that’s out there.
